The Burroughs Bring “Sweaty Soul Music” to Lagoon

The Burroughs

We are stepping it up a few notches with our next Lagoon performers, The Burroughs, and we’re not even sure if we know what to expect. This nine-member band is the largest of the 2016 lineup and from what we can tell, the more the merrier.

Since the summer of 2013, The Burroughs have been making people all throughout Northern Colorado get out of their seats and dance like there’s no tomorrow. The Burroughs got their start by covering the classics such as Ray Charles and Etta James. However, it is their upbeat and catchy originals that have molded this group into a league of their own.

The band describes their sound as “sweaty soul music” and their high-energy live shows will undoubtedly live up to this statement. Featuring a four-piece horn section, rhythm section, and front-man Johnny Burroughs commanding the stage, the group’s synergy is a marvel to watch in itself.

Based in Greeley, The Burroughs are certainly no stranger to the Fort Collins community. Having played at FoCoMX, New West Fest, Tour de Fat, and the iconic Aggie Theatre, the band has made quite a presence in our town.

The Burroughs include Sean Hagemeister on guitar, Tom Amend on organ and keyboard, Mary Claxton on drums, Brian Claxton on bass, Alec Bell on trumpet, Briana Harris and Hayden Farr on saxophones, Jeremy Fallis on trombone, and Johnny Burroughs on lead vocals. Along with an unforgettable performance from The Burroughs, we’ve got a few other surprises up our sleeves. Tavelli Elementary School of Little Kid Rock Band will have the pleasure of kicking off the night, and a special intermission is also on the agenda. Project Self-Sufficiency and Houska Automotive will present Alma Rosa, mother of three and Project Self-Sufficiency participant, with a van refurbished by Houska Automotive. Rosa works full-time to support her family and is making strides within the Project Self-Sufficiency program to attain career success in the medical field. More information about the organization may be found at http://www.ps-s.org/.

In addition to the special car giveaway ceremony, concert goers can enjoy local food trucks: Sustainable Spoon, Wing Shack, The Taco Stop and A-Maize’n Kettle Corn. Attendees are encouraged to bring chairs, blankets and their dancing shoes!
