OUR HISTORY

How It All Began..

More than 20 years ago, the first Lagoon concert took place in the blissful setting of the west lawn of Colorado State University’s Lory Student Center. To be honest, it was more of a casual jam session than an actual concert – a few local musicians strummed their guitars while standing on top of a warehouse pallet that served as a makeshift stage. The audience consisted of 30 – maybe 40 if we’re stretching it – music fans relaxing on the grass and grooving to the tunes. It was a small scene at first to say the least, but hey, you have to start somewhere, right?

Here We Are Today..

Fast forward to today! The Lagoon concerts have gotten bigger, better and – thankfully – are now performed on a real stage with a state-of-the-art sound system. Under the execution of Mantooth Marketing Company and with the supportive partnership of Colorado State University, the seven-week series has a weekly attendance of 1,500-2,000 people. The Lagoon fans range from the young to the young at heart, all of whom are united by their love of local music (and occasional impulse to jump up and start dancing).

Of course, some things will always stay the same. Each performer that graces the Lagoon stage is a Colorado sensation with a passion for expressing their love of music. Throughout the years, we’ve welcomed our fair share of talented performers, including Danielle Ate the Sandwich, The Wendy Woo Band, Post Paradise, Cary Morin, The Burroughs and countless others.

Not only is Lagoon known for its eclectic variety of bands throughout the years, but everything about Lagoon embodies the community-focused feeling that makes everyone love northern Colorado. Just to name a few extraordinary side notes of the Series – for several years, Lagoon has partnered with Houska Automotive to give away a vehicle to a single mother participating in Project Self-Sufficiency; Lagoon partnered with the Mishawaka Amphitheatre to support Fort Collins Habitat for Humanity in celebration of the Mish’s 100 year anniversary; the Lagoon crowd gave a spirited sendoff to local Olympian Janae DeLoach before she traveled to Rio de Janeiro for the 2016 Summer Olympics; each concert includes an opening act by aspiring young artists through Little Kids Rock; and the list goes on!

Thank you to all the music lovers and music supporters who have fueled the success of the Lagoon Summer Concert Series throughout the years, and here’s to many more decades of this free summer tradition at the Lagoon!

It is safe to say that the hundreds who attended years ago are part of the thousands who attend today. We are so thankful for your continued support of the Series year after year.
