Every time Nothing but Nineties steps on stage, they aim to take the audience back in time. The band is dedicated to giving audiences the whole nineties experience, going beyond just music to make each performance immersive. We asked the members of Nothing but Nineties a few questions to learn a little more about the band before they take the Lagoon stage on June 22nd.
How do you feel when you are performing on stage for a big crowd?
Nothing But Nineties is all about “sliming” our crowd with 90s nostalgia; not just for 90s music, but 90s fashion, pop culture, TV/movies and everything that was the 90s. We want to transport our crowd back to their childhood. The bigger the crowd, the more 90s love everyone feels together. So come belt the lyrics, dance the “butterfly,” sport your favorite fanny pack, and connect with your fellow former 90s kids over nostalgia for the good ol’ days.
Which artists have had the biggest impact on you as a band?
As a cover band, we are impacted by all the artists of the decade! Nothing But Nineties covers most genres of 90s music; everything from grunge rock to boy bands to hip hop to country to one-hit-wonders and even 90s TV/movie theme songs. We want every person in the crowd to hear a song that “brings them back.” In a single set, you can expect to hear a diverse assortment of artists, like No Doubt, Smashing Pumpkins, Britney Spears, Nirvana, Backstreet Boys, Garth Brooks, Spice Girls, 4 Non Blondes, Red Hot Chili Peppers, House of Pain, Shania Twain, Barenaked Ladies, Offspring, Blink 182, Fresh Prince of Bel Air and even a 90s Disney song! There’s something for everyone and we love playing them all!
What has been your most memorable performance ever? Please elaborate.
It was our very first show! We were nervous. Would people like our “all 90s hits” approach? Would they be nostalgic for the 90s yet? We started the show to a quickly sold-out crowd and, before we knew it, literally every person there was dancing and singing along to each song; even bartenders were twirling their dish rags in the air asking for more! That first show validated that a “want” was truly there for the 90s and we were now determined to be the band to go over-the-top in delivering it.
Since then we’ve gone on to play some great milestone venues, events and festivals, like A Taste of Colorado and Red Rocks’ New Year Eve, as people’s demand for the 90s continues to grow.
What does it mean to you to be able to perform for the Northern Colorado community at the Lagoon?
We’re honored to be the band chosen to represent our favorite decade of music, and we plan to bring it! We’ve never played in Fort Collins before, so the Lagoon will be an epic way to make our debut and hopefully lead to us coming back to Fort Collins again and again.
What advice would you give your past self when you were first starting out?
You can never be too over-the-top when it comes to the 90s. Be proud. Be shameless. We’re all 90s kids here.
What are you looking forward to more now that the Lagoon Summer Concert Series is back at CSU’s Lagoon?
This will be our first year at the Lagoon, but we can’t wait to be part of this unique concert series. We’re looking forward to rocking out with the CSU Lagoon crowd as we bring a full 90s nostalgia experience to the stage!
